While I was at The Players' Tribune, My role shifted from being a Visual Designer to a Product Designer. As the start-up expanded, so did the story and TPT was now a product first company. UX Thinking
Opportunity
I started just as the UX was being developed and the ask was presented from Business. Our role as designers were to mirror the UX, but also participate with the implementation of flows. We worked very close with business, legal and copywriters to make sure that the problem we were solving was on track. With our hard working UX and Design team we were able to identify 60 different use cases. Within each these flow held their own nuances. Which made this problem even more fun to solve. Our goal was to create a Happy Path flow, get approval and then begin to start work on varients and Use Cases.

When starting the marketing track, there was a big problem we encountered. We didn’t really have a true visual for representation. Apple is known for showing highlights of products and hero shots. But for this instance we didn’t have that chance. We were creating something completely new that was a subset of a credit card.
Problem:
How do you show/tell what an Apple Monthly Installment is.
Solution:
We did this by exploring a numerous amounts of explorations. A few examples we looked into were - using the existing pattern of color with different catagories. Using typography as our main hero and bringing the installment plan out that way. The other exploration was using an icon base that we created showing the benefits of using this card/option.

Buy Flow
Opportunity
There were 2 tracks that we worked on. 1 track was marketing and campaign - the visual story aspect, and the other track was more retail and transactional. The issue we first had to deal with was implementing a new buy selector for Apple Card Installments. As easy as it sounds - we had to figure out with business if by adding a new selector, not only what would that look like, but how it would act when the user selects trade in - vs no trade in.
